Booster Shot: Victim of nude pic ordeal identified

I know I've kept you waiting on this info for a little while...but I could be kinda weird, there are some news items I would rather not be the first to post.  When the word "porn" made it's debut appearance on (Nurse) Karen (Etc) a couple weeks ago, I had no idea how many hits this blog would receive, both from soca fans and the general public alike.  Imagine, all the world's information at your fingertips, and that's what allyuh does use the internet for?!  This is not the first time an artist's personal bedroom flex has made its way to the internet, and prolly won't be the last. (Shaking my head...) Though, I sincerely hope somebody out there will learn from this!

Do remember that this is an open case, and real people are involved.  So, I've decided to post very limited detail about this to squash a few rumours...quite literally to protect the innocent!  First things first, Destra is  not the subject of the photos.  Considering the fact that Destra won't even publicly wine on stage with her male fans anymore, and that she eh have time for no radio man ( I know it's a lot of DJs shedding tears now), she's a terrible guess.  But anyhoo...nice try.  

The woman portrayed in Davy Murray's indecent photos was Vanessa Thomas, an artiste who is known as  Precious.  Yes, you DO know her.  Remember this BIG tune "Ridin It" from 2000?

Even for those who don't recall her biggest soca tune, Trinidadians would probably know her as the co-host of the Jigga and Precious Show on Soca919 (alongside new artiste/host of Synergy Soca Star, Super Jigga TC)

It seems that the pics were posted online out of revenge after the singer ended her 18 month relationship with the accused.  According to TTgapers.com, the cops are saying that an email containing the photos was sent to other members of he entertainment community, including soca stars, DJs, and TV and Radio personalities. 

Precious is the one who went to the police to report the incident as the posting of pornography of any sort is in breech of Facebook's Terms of Service.  Murray remains out of jail on TT $50,000 bail.  The magistrate has adjourned court proceeding until May 19.

The Rounds: TriniBashment Turns 4!!!

Good Evening Soca Lovers,

I'm Nurse Karen and these are Dr. Jay's Rounds. As the weather begins to dip up here in Toronto, all eyes are on Miami for carnival. The action takes place next Sunday in South Florida with Road parades in both Miami and Broward. And YES, I WILL be there.

Naturally there's an air of excitement as the Caribbean community prepares for the annual festival. However, last week this excitement was met with grief when Miami Carnival CEO, Selman Lewis passed away on Monday. Lewis, just 60 at the time of his death was born in Trinidad and migrated to the US in 1969.

He's responsible for North America's third largest Caribbean carnival, after Caribana and Labor Day, and was ALSO the president of the China Mas group, a carnival band having won Miami's band-of-the-year title for 7 consecutive years. A public memorial was held for the community leader on Saturday. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Lewis' wife, and family.

You've heard me mention it before, the west Indian community in Florida means business when it comes to getting organized. Now, with a Federal election right around the corner, it's time to Soca D Vote once again. Soca D' Vote is a non-partisan community collective working to educate the Caribbean American community about their rights as voters. Next weekend representatives will be attending both carnivals with voter registration applications to make sure...we lil island people could have a big impact on Washington.

Other news this week....Soca 919, otherwise known as TriniBashment Radio celebrated its 4th anniversary last week. The world's first 24/7 soca music radio station was launched in Point Fortin Trinidad in 2004 by none other than De Boss...Mr. Iwer George.

And lastly, Bomani rang in a birthday on Tuesday with friends in New York...but if you're in New York two weeks from now, maybe you can celebrate with him at his annual Birthday Bash in Brooklyn. He'll be hanging out in the US for a month working on some projects.

The Rounds - June 29, 2007

Good Evening Soca Lovers,
I’m Nurse Karen and these are Dr. Jay’s Rounds. With one week to go till Caribana, the city is on fire with hot events blazing soca. All the entertainers are packing their bags, checking their passports and boarding their planes…because Toronto is THE place to be.
Last week, Trinidad was home to some major soca action. When radio station Soca 919, hosted their annual Soca for Summer Showcase. About a month ago I mentioned to you that this year’s concert marks the 20th anniversary of Iwer George’s career in soca. He’s the reigning soca monarch…AND the owner of that radio station. Well…after 20 years in the business, IWER GEORGE has called it quits…well…not HIM, but his name. The big man has retired his government name in favour of…THE BOSS. Ah hope de odda BOSS, Bruce Springstein is OK with DAT choice. Personally, I kinda like Iwer betta.(under my breath)
Since last Fall, the soca world has been mesmerized under the enigmatic spell of Machel Montano HD. Even die hard fans agree that this year’s stage show AND music showed a marked improvement over some pretty amazing years gone by. So next week, the HD posse will be on the road, At Lamport stadium AND at Fire Fete 6, but after that? who can be sure? What I do know is that the band has already finished writing and recording about EIGHTY percent of their NEXT album. Yeah, I’m talking about 2008. So, be sure and lap up the last of this year’s presentation…because before you know it, it will be time for something new.
Carnival vibrations sweep through the Caribbean all Summer long. So THIS weekend would have been a great time for a get-away. Whether in Antigua, Grenada or Barbados, Friday and Saturday were all about moving one step closer to crowning the next Monarch. Antigua’s groovy competitors have been narrowed down to 9. Claudette Peters leads the pack with “Go Claudette”.
On the UpTempo side, El A Kru’s Tizzy, is making another attempt to BOUNCE she way to that crown. At Grenada’s soca semi’s on Friday, the show mostly gave newcomers and emerging artists a chance to expose their music to a wider audience. But, some of my greenz posse will be happy to hear that favourites like Nnika Francis, Boogie B and Inspector are back in the running THIS year.
BIM is looking for a Party Monarch too and Barry Chandler has got some stiff competition. The 2007 music is sweet fuh so. So whether it goes to Khiomal, Hypasounds, Lil Rick, or Mr. Dale, All my Bajans can rest assured de title will be in good hands.
Well Toronto posse…this is we time. So save up your pennies and support the culture. Friday we going to KOS J’ouvert…and then it’s no sleep at all till Tuesday morning.
