Calypso singers compete to win the coveted title of 2009 Calypso Monarch

What: After an exhaustive round of preliminary and semi final competitions, nine finalists sing two songs each competing for the title of the Organization of Calypso Performing Artistes (OCPA) 2009 Calypso Monarch.

Why: Calypso music is an important part of the carnival experience. It is the job of the calypsonian to report (in song) on the issues of the day; be they social, political or comedic rants … using wit, irony and humour.

Who: In order/stage name: Structure, Calypso Crooner, Susan G, Spice, Beginner, Redman, Macomere Fifi, King Cosmos, Naki.

When: Doors open at 6.30pm. Seating at 7pm. Showtime at 7.30pm
